FedHire Water Cooler on 2210 Series Competency Standards

Thank you to our FedHire agencies that joined our Water Cooler on OPM’s new competency-based standards for the IT Management series (2210). Agencies can access the presentation through the Corner for an overview of how FedHire can support these changes. Coming soon is a FedHire Guide for phased assessments with more detailed information!

GAO Finds OPM Staffing Cuts Have Reduced Its Operational Capacity

Understanding OPM’s current capacity matters for your agency’s HR IT planning. A new GAO report finds OPM’s 35 percent staffing reduction has “reduced institutional knowledge and operational capacity at the agency” and warns the cuts risk deepening long-standing skills gaps OPM has not yet addressed. OPM’s Inspector General has separately named the reduction a top management challenge for 2026.

Catch up on the ‘Rule of Many’

In late June, the ApplyGov team joined OPM for its Rule of Many webinar offering agencies another chance to learn more and ask any remaining questions. We appreciate everyone for joining and hope you found the session helpful. As a reminder, ApplyGov has several ‘Rule of Many’ resources in the Corner, including our FedHire Guide, the part 3 webinar of our Merit Hiring Plan series, and our virtual Q&A session.

FedHire Guidance for Policy/Career Executive Order

FedHire agencies implementing Schedule Policy/Career positions (per the recent Executive Order) already have the tools they need in their federal talent acquisition system. Within Hiring Management, FedHire users can leverage existing vacancy announcement and email notification templates to create new ones and report on activity by creating a new announcement type.
